Don Angie: Reviews & Ratings

We waited at 3:10 to get a walk in seat by the bar. There were at least 50 people in line. Service and the whole experience was definitely great as they're like a well oiled machine. We even got iced juice in little Don Angie cups while waiting in line. We were able to get seated when they opened at the bar. They don't take food orders until 4pm. I liked that Nonna's Little Nip was only $6 and just enough for me for an early bird dinner. Everyone ordered the flatbread, chrysanthemum salad and lasagna. We didn't want as many carbs and chose the house salami and cheese, which came with delicious savory waffle crackers. Chrysanthemum salad was piled with parmesan, sesame crisps. Definitely the highlight for me! If you're like me and have not had chrysanthemum, it's like a lighter version of arugula, not as bitter. Finally the main dishes were delicious but both a bit on the saltier and saucier side. The shell steak was very lemony, like fully infused with lemon. The sopresine had a great al dente texture, but a bit too much sauce for us as it's a sweet and savory sauce. For the price we paid, it was a really great experience for a former Michelin star restaurant!

Don Angie is among the most coveted tables on Resy and for good reason; if you're among the lucky people who can snag a reservation, be sure to order some of our favorites and enjoy the cozy environment. "Our Lasagna" - this dish speaks for itself, and is what Don Angie is known for. The pinwheel-style dish is as tasty as it looks, with Italian sausage bolognese and perfectly textured pasta. Sourdough Pasta Cacciatore - beautiful, slightly chewy, al dente noodles, slightly tart because of the olives Sopresine & Smoked Mussels - mussels were so tender, cilantro was a nice touch Japanese sweet potatoes - a bit out of place for the menu but one of my favorite things we ordered. Potatoes were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside.

It's truly impossible to score a resy here and it's honestly easier to just lineup. We arrived a little before 4pm on July 4th (they were open for regular weekday hours). The host came out to take everyone's preferred time slots and seating preference at 4:30. We opted for bar seating and we made the cut so we were seated immediately. The restaurant is pretty small which probably adds to the difficulty of scoring a table reservation. Apps- We LOVED the chrysanthemum salad, the herbiness of the veggie cuts through the richness of the dressing. I could skip the stuffed garlic flatbread because i didn't love the cheese filling but the dough is fluffy and flakey! Main- The lasagna is good, even for someone who is not a huge lasagna lover. Their sauce is balanced and the pasta is perfectly al dente. The meat is seasoned well too but I could only finish one lasagna roll. The foccacia it comes with is also so fluffy and buttery! Is it mind blowingly amazing? Probably not. The japanese sweet potatoes are coated in a garlicky dressing and very flavorful! This was so unique and I enjoyed it. We initially ordered the chicken as another main but were luckily able to cancel because we were stuffeddd. Dessert- The tiramisu is what won me over for sure!!! Best tiramisu I've ever had, I loved the flakey, butter cookie layer. It added a nice crunch and it wasn't just mouthfuls of cream and ladyfingers like tiramisu usually is. Overall, I enjoyed my experience but have to say Don Angie is a bit overhyped considering how difficult it is to dine here. It is definitely still worth trying!! BUT, having gone to San Sabino a month before this, I actually prefer San Sabino over Don Angie!

Waiting on line starting at 3:45pm and was seated right when they opened (5pm). We sat at the bar and the bartender was awesome!! The salad is a must get (and I don't usually order salad) Lasagna- really delicious but a little on the salty side. BEST THING was the Tiramisu!! Not your typical tiramisu- different types of layers and just perfect. I want it everyday.

Visit here second time, and finally got the reservation for an indoor dining, still recommend to book ahead to skip the long waiting line. Love the interior, classic and comfort for date or group of friends The food is good, my friend went to Italy a couple of years ago, and said it is good as most of the restaurant intaly.

After wanting to come to Don Angie for YEARS and having failed to get a reservation countless times, I finally managed to get in to have my long-awaited dinner here... so needless to say, expectations were sky high. Of course, I absolutely had to try the signature dish: the Lasagna for Two. Despite the unique appearance of the lasagna rolls, I have to say, it didn't taste all that different from normal lasagna once it was in my mouth. But that is not at all to say that it wasn't good, because it was indeed delicious! I could tell that the rolled lasagna sheets had been handmade from their perfect consistency. The cheese was also plentiful and as good as you would imagine. I liked that the edges of the lasagna were crispy, while the rest remained softer. I think the price of $68 is justifiable considering the high quality and the fact that this is enough lasagna for two people. Still though, it might be ever so slightly on the pricey side, likely inflated by all the social media photos of this dish. Now that we got the star of the show out of the way, I can discuss the other dishes that we tried: BBQ Calamari ($19) - This was honestly the only disappointing dish of the entire meal. Although the calamari was nice and tender, the dish was simply way too salty. Granted I probably have a lower salt tolerance than most, but it was salty to the point where I simply could not finish it... which is a shame, because I could tell that the calamari and fried rice underneath would have been tasty had they laid off the salt a bit. Black Cocoa Tiramisu ($14) - This was surprisingly delicious and a unique spin on traditional tiramisu. Instead of the normal coffee powder on top, there was black cocoa powder on this one that gave the dessert a unique flavor. The tiramisu was soft and creamy. There was also a layer of crispy flakes in the middle, which really elevated the dessert by adding the crispy texture to complement the creaminess, something that I don't think I have ever seen in a tiramisu before, but was very much a bonus. Strawberry Sorbetto ($12) - This was also a unique and delicious dessert, as there was a special basil flavor throughout the sorbet. While it was a bit strong, it did add a unique light and fresh feel to the dessert. There was also mascarpone granita (which is like sorbet but a little more icy) on top, which sort of infused with the strawberry and basil flavors to complement the sweetness of the sorbet (it was still a tiny bit too sweet for my liking but that it being nit-picky). I have to say, the service at Don Angie was some of the best I have experienced. First of all, the staff are all super friendly, helpful, and attentive. For example, it felt like they were refilling my water after every couple sips. When our waitress saw that we were not enjoying the BBQ Calamari she without hesitation offered to take it off our bill and later gave us the Strawberry Sorbetto on the house as compensation, without us even asking for anything. She truly went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our meal, which I very much appreciated. The interior of the restaurant is moderately sized with a comfortable amount of room between each table. There is a nice bar area as well as a decent amount of tables. There is a chic and trendy kind of vibe and the environment is quite lively during peak hours. My one critique is that they could improve their lighting - it is rather dim inside and not really in a setting-the-mood sort of way, but rather in a lights-don't-really-work kind of way. Now here's probably the most important piece of advice that I could give you: Unless you have a special connection who can help you get a reservation, don't bother trying to get one on Resy, because they are never available. Instead, if you are looking to go for dinner, show up outside the restaurant by 3pm and wait in the line. At 3:30pm, a hostess will come out and start letting people in or adding people to the waitlist. If you want, you can request to be put on the waitlist for a later time in the evening as well. This is how I managed to finally get a table (we ended up getting seated around 5:15pm), and I think it is definitely the way to go. While it still takes some effort and early preparation, this method should be pretty dependable for you to get a table. Of course, your chances will be even better if you come for lunch or on a weekday, but the same principles will apply. Overall, I am really torn about the rating to give Don Angie. On one hand, the service was top notch and the lasagna and desserts were truly delicious. However, with the salty BBQ Calamari, it is really difficult for me to justify giving 5 stars to a place where I simply did not even want to finish one of their dishes, even if they ended up compensating for it elsewhere. As a result, I have to give Don Angie 4 stars. But bottom line: maybe don't set your expectations sky high, but Don Angie does in fact mostly live up to the hype.

Absolutely love this restaurant, and not too hard to get into! I lined up 10 minutes before opening on a weekday and waited around 20-25 minutes to put my name down. I was able to get an outdoor heated table for the same day at 7pm. Service is the best I have ever received at a restaurant! We had to wait an extra 15 minutes for the table and the server sent over free drinks and an appetizer to make up for it! Food is all delicious too, especially the sweet potatoes! Will definitely be coming back

I'm normally a "Is this Italian food really better than what I can make at home" person, but this place really did blow me away. The service was amazing, the food was to die for, and the experience overall was just so quintessential New York. We started with cute little welcome fruity Prosecco drinks (Nonna's Little Nip) and the garlic flatbread as an appetizer, which was so flaky and cheesy. Our mains were the rolled lasagna, Japanese sweet potato (crispy and sweet and soft!), chrysanthemum salad (basically a Caesar with better base leaves), the chicken sourdough pasta (such a unique house special sauce!!), and garlic bread (so buttery and pillowy soft). I was shocked by how much we all enjoyed the sides (table bread, Japanese sweet potatoes)! Their famous lasagna was surprisingly my least favorite dish, but that was only because everything else was so phenomenal. The desserts were actually insane. The tiramisu was unlike any other l've ever had - it was layered with chocolate cake and crispy wafers for a pertect crunchy texture with the usual sweet creaminess. The gelato was fresh and the perfect mix of strawberry and vanilla. Their coffee was also phenomenal. Our waiter was absolutely so attentive throughout the entire meal, looking after every detail. Their Michelin star is so well-deserved.

Run, do not walk, to Don Angie (if you can get a reservation or table that is..) Mouthwatering food, great service and amazing times. The salad and lasagna are top notch. The venue is small and the ambiance is a bit intimate but the food will make your experience worthwhile. I understand and support the hype.
